Dry and Wet Cupping

Dry Cupping The cup creates a vacuum or suction and the skin will rise into the glass cup and begin to redden. Typically, these glass or silicone cups are set in place for up to three minutes at a time. But some treatments require longer times and can last up to twenty minutes. Dry cupping produces a low amount of pressure. The cups are better suited for use on the softer tissue so that a secure and tight seal is allowed against the skin. Wet Cupping During a wet cupping therapy session, the cupping therapist will make small cuts on the patient’s skin, typically by using a sterilized scalpel and then perform a cupping session to draw out some of the blood. Benefits
  • Local pain relief
  • Muscle relaxation
  • Increases circulation and oxygenation of the blood in an affected area
  • Passively stretches myofascial tissue
  • Increases range of motion of the affected area
  • Increases collagen production and tissue repair
  • Relieves muscle spasms
  • Breaks up adhesions in tissue (similar to massage)
  • Reduces inflammation
  • Helps with clearing natural energy pathways inside the body
  • Depending on the cupping technique used, it can help remove toxic blood
Remedial – Sport Massage

Remedial – Sport Massage

What is a Remedial Massage?

If you have particular muscle tension or chronic pain a remedial massage may be for you. Your remedial massage therapist will assess where you need treatment and what may be causing your pain. They’ll perform some tests to see exactly which muscles are giving you trouble and will tailor a treatment plan to suit. The treatment itself may involve deep tissue work for short periods of time, but the results are definitely worth it!

Many conditions such as sciatica, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck pain, headaches and sports injuries etc. can be eased with a remedial treatment.

Remedial massage is based on the fact that soft tissues (muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia) respond to touch. Most pain is myofascial (soft tissue) in origin. Muscles not only move our joints, they stabilise them, and they provide armour for the internal organs, minor problems with these functions cause more pain than most people realise. For example, most headaches originate in the muscles of the neck and head. Low back pain and sciatic pain are far more likely to originate in muscles than in vertebral disc problems.

Although many clients who consult a remedial massage therapist have pain as a result of specific injuries (whiplash, falls, sports injuries, etc.), RSI (repetitive strain injuries) and other work-related problems, many originate from postural (structural) alignment problems that sometimes go back to childhood and adolescence.

Remedial massage therapists have usually undertaken additional training, which usually includes more in-depth study and qualifications in anatomy and physiology. This extra knowledge and understanding will enable the massage therapist to carry out an assessment and provide appropriate treatment for a wide variety of conditions

Treatment employs massage and manipulation of muscle and connective tissue, not dissimilar to those used in sports massage and will involve

  • Deep tissue massage
  • Mobilisation and manipulation.
  • Postural assessments
  • Muscle balance checks
  • Neuromuscular and trigger point techniques
  • Visualisation techniques
  • Utilising Hot & Cold Stone therapy

Clinical Reflexology

Clinical Reflexology

Reflexology

Reflexology is a non-intrusive complementary health therapy, based on the theory that different points on the feet, lower leg & hands correspond with different areas of the body. Reflexologists work holistically with their clients and aim to work alongside allopathic healthcare to promote better health for their clients.

Your clinical reflexologists will not claim to cure, diagnose or prescribe. Reflexology is a very individual treatment which is tailored to you as a whole person, taking into account both physical and non-physical factors that might be affecting your wellbeing.

BENEFITS

Reflexology helps the body to restore its balance naturally. Usually, after a treatment your tension may be reduced and you might feel relaxed. You might also notice yourself sleeping better and find your mood and sense of wellbeing improving. You may also find that other aspects improve too; however, this happens on an individual basis.

With ever increasing levels of stress in everyday life, it is important for people to take more responsibility for their own healthcare needs. Reflexology may be one of the ways to mitigate the stresses of modern life.

Hot – Cold Stone Massage

Hot – Cold Stone Massage

What is hot & cold stones massage

Hot stone massage is a speciality massage where therapists uses smooth, heated stones as an extension of their hands, or by placing them on the body. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles so the therapist can work more deeply, more quickly, easing muscle tension.

While cold stones may not sound appealing, they feel refreshing on your warmed skin and have a beneficial effect on the body. Alternating between heat and cold both stimulates and relaxes the circulatory system, which is very detoxifying for the body. In cooperation with heated stones, chilled marble stones create a dramatic movement of fluids within the body.

Benefits of treatment
  • stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems
  • reduce stress aiding relaxation
  • helps detoxify the body
  • relieves pain & reduces muscle tension
  • invigorating effect. When alternating hot with cold
What will happen in your treatment?

You usually start face down, with the therapist working on your back. First, the therapist warms up the body by applying oil, then they will massage you while holding a heated stone. As the stone cools, the therapist replaces it with another.

The therapist uses many stones of various shapes and sizes — big ones on the big muscles, smaller ones on smaller muscles. The therapist might also leave heated stones in specific points along your spine or in the palms of your hand.

Clinical Acupuncture

Clinical Acupuncture

The overall aim of acupuncture is to restore the body’s equilibrium. Acupuncture is uniquely suited to modern life in that physical and psychological areas are seen as interdependent, and reflect what many people perceive as the connection between the different aspects of their lives.

The focus is on the individual, not their illness, and all the symptoms are seen in relation to each other.

The underlying principle of treatment is that illness and pain occur when the body’s qi, or vital energy, cannot flow freely.

A detailed consultation will take place, prior to your acupuncture sessions, in order to deliver the very best care and treatment for you.
